Internal Component Pricing

Following on from our last update, we have just received photos of the first internal component samples from the production tooling. They're being sent out and should hopefully be here within a week or so. From there, we're going to give them a good test and then get the metal components underway and tooling for plastic units started ASAP.

Tooling Progress & Supply Issues

Dear Supporters,
Today we received confirmation that progress on the essential internal component tooling (two halves of locking ring and the piston cup) is around 65% complete. Photos of this are at the bottom!
Delayed.
We are a little behind on this it must be said, and the reason is due to a supply chain issue with the pump core and piston-cup - the two internal pieces that enable Soapstone to work so effectively. The pump being the sprung part that pumps the fluid, and the piston cup is the piece that moves inside the bottle to keep an air-tight seal and vacuum that enables the pump to work.
Our plan had been to source these two critical pieces from the same factory we used in our original campaign. They were happy to provide the samples for this products development. However, the final quantity of parts we needed to order exceeded what they had in stock. They told us that the tooling had since been decommissioned and no more parts were available.
This is - of course - not what we wanted to hear. Before moving any further with production we paused things, and spent the time tracking down an alternative source for both parts.
Long story short - we were able to find the pump core itself no problem, but the piston cup was a custom part. We decided to add this into the tooling mould for our locking adapter and make it ourselves. Everything is back on track, but we are behind the original schedule.
What Happens Next?
We are now likely looking at early 2023 deliveries, we are yet to start the tooling for the plastic version of Soapstone, or begin work on the metal bodies. However, the metal parts will take significantly less time. The current internal-component tooling is underway and due to be finished around mid-October. Once done, we'll thoroughly test them to ensure perfect function and only then give the green light to the rest of production.
From there, the plastic bodies tooling can be commissioned, and the machining of the metal parts too before final anodisation, assembly, QC, packaging and shipping.
Thank you all for your patience, these things happen and this was sadly out of our control. With that said, we are very pleased with the steps taken and everything is able to move forward once again.

A quick update from us here at Soapstone, with lots of positive news to report!
Surveys almost completed
Thanks to everyone who has completed their address survey. Please keep the addresses in our survey up to date, so that you can receive your order on time. Any updates to your address can be made at the same Backerkit link until right before shipping, we will be sure to notify you at that time. We have a 91% response rate, and are missing approximately 300 backers. If you have not filled the survey, please do so at the link in your Kickstarter email. If you are missing your survey, please contact us for a new link.
Funds Received
Funds were safely received around 3 weeks after the campaign ended. This has enabled us to make progress with some final testing, and to commission our tooling moulds:
Testing
Our locking mechanism is a new feature for Soapstone 2.0. We had tested this with 3D printed parts, but wanted some higher fidelity, machined plastic samples, to ensure high tolerances and great function. We are happy to report that these have been received and we are very happy with performance.

Tooling Commissioned
We are pleased to report that we have commissioned our tooling moulds for the few key plastic components of Soapstone. We will begin with the locking mechanism, before moving onto the bottle inners and outers for the plastic version. Once we have a first unit for the locking mechanism from our moulds, we will begin machining our metal bottles, to be sure that tolerances are kept as high as possible, and to prevent any compatibility issues.

We are progressing well towards shipping, but will keep in touch at each stage of the process with updates. As always, we are available to answer any questions.

Dear Supporters,
Thanks to all 3,510 of you Soapstone 2.0 smashed its funding goalyesterday! With your helpduring the 30 day campaign, we broke through our £100k stretch goal and made two extra colours available.
The full Soapstone 2.0 colour range in metal is now Midnight Blue, Silver and Charcoal. In plastic, the range is Midnight Blue, Two-Tone White and Terracotta!
We cannot thank you enough, and we cannot wait to get cracking with the next steps and deliver Soapstone to you as soon as possible.
What happens next?
Over the next week Kickstarter will begin charging your cards. Sometimes these cards error (unexpected charge usually!) so keep an eye on your inbox for any messages from KS to get this resolved. A week or so after that the funds will be released to us so we can get our advertising bills and 3rd party partner invoices paid - meaning the surveys with the all-imporant add-on store will be unlocked and ready to send out to you all!
